RIP off during covid 19

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
. We rented with Auto Europe in Switzerland for 4 weeks, we had to return the Car after two weeks because of Covid 19 and they will not repay the 2 weeks we weren't able to use the Car. I know it says in the Contract that there is no refund for early returns, but common, this is a unprecedented situation and absolutely not acceptable. We are loosing over $700 with this. any other travel agency we have had bookings with refunded all or partial of the payments without hesitation. Shame on you to enrich yourselves in a situation like this.

STAY AWAY

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We booked a rental car and paid the fee indicated on the company's website. At the time of picking up the car, we were told to pay an additional fee that was not clearly disclosed on the website. The fees we were being charged were not transparent. They did not cite specific amounts to be paid, nor do they specify that the fees would be paid during pick-up. After speaking to a representative on the phone, I was informed that this is not the first time someone has been misled using the company's services. They purposefully do not disclose the total amount to be paid at a later data in order to mislead people using the website. The fee we paid on the website was 500 dollars. At the time of pickup, we were instructed to pay an additional amount of over 200 dollars. That amount was NOT listed on their website, nor was it clear that we were supposed to pay an additional fee after booking. I request that the company cite specific fees and make it known to the customer that they would be paying additional fees. The total amount on the website listed does not reflect the real amount to be paid by the customer resulting in this discrepancy. Further, during pickup, their employee at the location was also unaware of this discrepancy and had to spend 45 minutes with another representative on the phone to figure out why we were being charged extra. The lack of information from the employee shows the lack of clarity on the company's part.

I did a search for "who regulates car rental companies in Hawaii" and found this site, which is part of the state of Hawaii. It seems you can file a complaint against Auto Europe Car Rental with the Hawaii dept.

of commerce online at: http://cca.hawaii.gov/blog/category/consumerdialinformation/cars/. Smells like a scam to me or part of the old "bait and switch" strategy to get you to reserve a car and then charge you more when you pick it up, knowing most people will just pay the secret additional fees.

Auto Europe/Avis in Rome. Charged us more for our cars we rented September 2019. We prepaid for our 2 cars and Avis in Rome, Italy had us initial a form without explaining what it really was….additional charges. DO NOT INITIAL ANYTHING when you have prepaid. Our fault, but they cheated us.

Auto Europe - VOUCHER - #569**** Refund of deposit and double charges
Please be inform that I have email to reservation support on 28th Oct 2019 on the above. I only receives an acknowledgement of my email and nothing else. I have paid the car rental deposit of Eur 300.00 and cross border charges Eur 80.28 at the counter in Munich Airport on 2nd Oct 2019. Thereafter I return the car on the 18th Oct but was charge again for the cross border usage. I am very disappointed that Europcar did not checked that I paid cash over the counter to the staff at Munich airport when I collected the car VW Passat estate. I like to know the status of my refund and date it will be credited back to my Visa credit card.

On their website you can book a car with Hertz at 5.30 even though they close at 5.30pm ! I booked for 5.30pm without realising Hertz closing time, which should have been made more obvious. Go to Hertz at 5.20, place is closed. I called Auto Europe, indian *** pick up and tell me it is my fault and hang up, I call back got a woman who tried to be more helpfull but she was patronising and useless. Dont book with them , like ever !

Misleading insurance policy

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Booked car with Super Cover. Then locally they sell the same (called Super SCDW // Serenity Pack Plus // EXW (Excess Waiver) // Mastercover) for about 125% extra! They mention that the local insurance Auto Europe offers an excess refund product which is not to be compared with the additional insurance that is required locally to pay. This seems rather misleading, as Firefly adds insurance on top of “the maximum insurance” AutoEurope is selling.

Beware of Auto Europe

Auto Europe contacted me through mail on October 10. That was almost one month (!) after I posted my review here and send another e-mail to their customer service ... In their mail they wrote: "We are currently investigating the matter which you have brought to our...

I did the reservation of my car for a family vacation with Auto Europe. Auto Europe sent me a Voucher / a contract, in which all the conditions of this rental were set.

Thus Auto Europe is my contact company, my addressee in this matter.
Maggiore is one partner company of Auto Europe for Italy, and they should have provided me the reserved car (I already had paid the car rental costs at Auto Europe). But when I wanted to pick up the reserved car in Milano, I was told by he staff of Maggiore that that car was not available. That is, in my point of view, a breach of contract. By not providing me the car that I had reserved, Maggiore broke my existing reservation!

The staff in Maggiore then told me that he could give me a similar car. In any case, standard practice in such a situation is that the company will offer a similar car for the same price to the client. Because it is only the company's fault, if the pledged car is not available. It is not the client's fault.
Maggiore then forced me to sign a new document (contratto) and to take the other car.

The staff of Maggiore lied to me by telling me that I would get a "similar" car. He did not tell me that that car would come at a higher price. So when I thought about the standard practice in such a situation and the staff told me about a "similar car", I automatically assumed that that replacement car would come at the same price as the pledged car. The document that I signed was in Italian language.

I don't understand Italian, and the staff of Maggiore refused to explain to me the content of the document. He only marked the places in the document where I had to sign. I signed everything, because of the reasons explained above ("standard practice"), and because other people were already waiting there and complaining that my transaction took too much time.
When I returned the car 9 days later, I was shocked to learn that the car company asked me to pay additional car rental costs!

It turned out that they had not given a "similar" car to me, but a slightly "better" car, and they wanted additional money from me. Even though I protested against this, they later withdrew the additional costs from my credit card.
I then wrote 4 e-Mails to Auto Europe, explaining the matter to them, and asking them to refund me the amount that was deducted from my credit card for the use of the replacement car.
But Auto Europe just ignored my e-mails, they did not reply to me anymore!
After this bad experience, I will never book a car through Auto Europe anymore ...

There's no money back yet

Auto Europe - There's no money back yet
I'm over seas so I'm not able to receive messages from my bank regarding my bank balance. I've been told the money will be returned to my account within 24hrs but that never happened. I hope the money will be reinbursed to my account soon. There is no mail to which you can send an appeal. I know I'm disappointed.

Very scammy! They had no problem processing my card, even though they hadn't accepted my reservation. Requested that I fax all sorts of documents to a number in the US if I wanted to continue the process. Which I obviously could not do on vacation. But wouldn't take the holds off my card. To top it off the customer service representative was nastiest piece of works I have had the displeasure of speaking with.

Ripping Customers - Trapping customers with damages claims

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

After a recent hire of a vehicle and it’s return (returned in excellent order) I was angrily surprised at Auto-Europe’s refusal to return the deposit paid in good faith on the alleged ‘damage to vehicle’ rues. It appears this was not the first occasion they have attempted to withhold deposits from customers on ‘damage’ grounds; including that describing the alleged damage to the vehicle I returned - 3cm cut in nearside front tyre.

I have witnessed several customers complaining over allegations of damage with each customer (self included) arguing the vehicle was returned in good order prior to their claims of damage. I have requested evidence of said damage on no less than four occasions and (to date) I have received nothing indicating proof of damage. I have contacted my credit card company to redact payment as I refuse to pay for something that I cannot now argue with as they did not provide anyone to check the vehicle at the time of return and now insist it was returned to the wrong depot.

Very convenient but for the fact I was also advised twice where to return the vehicle and that is precisely where it was left. Auto-Europe have since sent me a bill for the alleged damage (today) but STILL no evidence of this alleged damage.

Further to the above the deposit of £500 has NOT been returned to my account and they have not corresponded since other than to send through the bill for repairs today.

What Sort of Thievery Is This?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Paid a deposit of £600 in London Heathrow and assured it would be returned in full as it was simply to guarantee safe return of the hire vehicle. WRONG! Once in the hands of Auto-Europe they will use every means at their disposal to refuse the return in full, inventing all sorts of allegations of damage. The car was returned in excellent order but as I was flying on to a new destination they knew I would have no means of recourse should they employ their favourite tactic of alleged damage - how could I possibly argue when several thousand miles away? Lies, lies and more lies along with a degree of thievery!

No Rental... No Refund

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
No Rental... No Refund My flight was delayed, rental agency gave away my vehicle. There was a issue with the arrival time and I arrived late for my pickup. Auto Europe refused to provide me a refund claiming it was passed the scheduled pickup time. $500 lost, $1000 for another rental car. Rental car company stated they are not charing Auto Europe, and the customer service rep admitted they are pocketing the money. Never use these people, they are unethical, they exploit their terms of service, and their customer service department is rude and disrespectful. It amazes me how companies like this can operate. Read the reviews, this company should not exist. This was our honeymoon, and a very annoying added expense to our trip.

Worst customer service ever

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
First and last experience renting a car with auto Europe. Starting by saying they did not accept my driving license at the counter desk of Maggiore in Fiumicino stating the expiration date was not visible anymore (one week ago they had no problem accepting it in another location), I had to call AutoEurope to cancel or modify the name of my reservation. Clearly to complicated I got treated in an extremely poor way, hang up by their customer service representative, and lost the reservation money for a car I never got. For everyone looking to rent in Europe please avoid them and try renting with other companies (in Italy I always suggest Sicily By Car for their amazing customer experience and quality of cars).

Never again auto europe

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My entire day is going to be spent looking at ways to warn people about using auto europe. After recently using this company to rent a car at Catania airport Sciliy I cant beleive i dident check them out first. After arriving one hour late the hire desk was closed. We couldent inform them as we were still in the air. I dont think it would have mattered as i have recently read an article (big one and not complimentary) in the Guardian all about auto europe and how they rip off customers.Every other car hire firm in the building was open. After ringing Interrent's 24 hour number it was an answerphone "come back at 6am in the morning" FYI it was 10 past 10 in the evening and we had an amazing hotel to get too 90 minutes away. We tried auto europe they tell you to at all costs contact them. Yes you have guesed answerphone. Long story short hired another car (similiar nightmare) twice as expensive and in the morning when we contacted auto europe they just hid behind there T/Cs Morale of the story book direct
